Okay, so it wasn’t really a triple date as much as it was me and Lisa hanging out with some of my friends, but it was three couples, so one could call it a triple date.
First off, the entire day wasn’t bad. I should make that crystal clear. There were some parts where we did have a lot of fun. It just doesn’t quite compare to last night.
I got up really late today, and I felt bad about that. We took our time this morning, did some homework, and ate a small bit of food. We contacted Nasser at around 11:30 this morning to see if he and Deszarae, his fiancĂ©e, would like to go to the state fair. We had spoken of doing this last weekend, but that didn’t work well for us.
It turns out that Deszarae’s sister-in-law, Tina, has her birthday today, and so they wanted to take her out to see Underworld. Nasser said he’d call me back in a few minutes once they figured out what all they were going to do, so Lisa and I went to Target to pick up a couple of things we’d been needing (such as sunglasses for Lisa, as hers broke the other day).
About an hour later, around 12:35 I think, Nasser calls and says they’d all be willing to head down to the fair, so we finish up at Target and head to their place (you see, all four of them live together), then we went down to catch the park’n'ride service at Coronado Center.
We were at the fair for around three and a half, maybe four hours, I’m not exactly sure. We looked at the quilts that some of my family had entered into the fair as well as a lot of other art, such as photography. I think I’d like to get into photography. We ate lots of food that was bad for us but tasted so good. Nothing in the world is like a state fair corn dog. We didn’t get any funnel cake though – I don’t know why. We got some ice cream too, which is always good. Normally, one of my favorite things to do is to go through the Manuel Lujan exhibit hall and look at all of the garbage being sold, but it was just too packed today, so Lisa and I sat outside while the others went through the hall. After that, we made a fast trip to the big red barn to look at all of the cute baby animals, such as pygmy goats and baby ducks and chickens and kittens and puppies.
We left the fair and went to the Century Rio 24. We got there at around 5:15pm, and caught the 5:40 showing of Underworld.
Sitting through Underworld was arguably the largest waste of time I’ve ever commited in my life. That’s two hours I’d like back. I suppose for the genre, the movie was alright. However, the effects were too cheesy (especially during “the awakening”), the battle sequences were fairly bad, and the acting was a bit stiff even. Kate Beckinsale was somewhat attractive, but women clad in all tight leather like that tend to be. The concept was great, the execution was just horrid.
After the movie, around 7:45, Lisa and I left the company of Nasser and crew, and we headed up to Cottonwood Mall (which I can’t find a decent website for) and went into Eddie Bauer for a few minutes, then into Dillard’s before leaving for home. We picked up a couple of items of clothing, but certainly nothing substantial.
That was today in a nutshell. I have some thought that have been brewing in my head to share, but I’m going to put those in a separate post, possibly tomorrow at some point. For now, I just want to shower, get in bed, and watch a bit of Saturday Night Live. I know it’s a repeat, but Christopher Walken is hilarious.
