Death of a phone

This post is just a quick update, kind of aimed particularly at just a few people, but still, possibly something noteworthy.

See, I’m a lazy person sometimes, and as such, sometimes I will wear the same pair of jean shorts or whatever for a few days in a row. I’m also a fan of having tons of pockets. Some of my favorite articles of clothing are cargo shorts or carpenter’s jean shorts. The phrasing of “carpenter’s shorts” sounds like quite the oxymoron, but I hope it is understood as to what I mean.

One of the things I really like about the carpenter’s jean style is the small pocket on the side. This pocket is ideal for cell phones. They fit just right! It’s great.

As I wear shorts for a few days or whatever in a row, I don’t empty my pockets generally. Take off the shorts, put on the floor by the bed, sleep, get up and put shorts back on. It’s very efficient.

This morning, I was crashed out quite hard and Lisa, ever the wonderful and caring wife, was tending to some laundry, and so she went to get my shorts, as she is also aware of my propensity to repeatedly wear them. I had only been wearing this particular pair for one day so far, but that’s okay. She carefully (and quietly I guess, as I didn’t move) removes the belt, my wallet, my keys, and whatever else is in the pockets…

but not the carpenter’s pocket on the side.

I woke up this morning, went to find my pants, and they were obviously gone. I ask, and am told about the wash, so I head into the bedroom and start looking around to put on something else, and notice my wallet, and my brain kicks into inventory mode. I realize where my cell phone now is located, and go to the washing machine.

Fishing out the cell phone was relatively easy, as the jeans were near the top of the pile. The screens are solid black and about half full of water. There’s no life left in it whatsoever.

I say that this post is aimed at a few people – basically, I just mean that of the few of you out there that actually send me text messages, well… I may not be able to receive them today, and I’m not sure when I’ll be able to replace it with a good text-enabled phone. I have a spare Sprint phone somewhere around here, I think, that we can go get re-activated (hopefully, my friend had problems getting his older phone re-activated) so I can at least make calls and such.

Overall, I’m kind of surprised at my lack of spasticness over the loss. I mean, it kind of stinks, but I’m not really mad. It’s just a phone, y’know? I wasn’t terribly attached to it. It did a decent job, and that’s that. I’d probably have been more broken up if it were my DS.

Off I go to hunt down my spare phone.

Now, see, if I’d read this earlier I wouldn’t have texted you last night.

You posted this after I made my blog run, unfortuantely.
