Crazy ’bout a Mercury
For those of you who keep an eye on the Flickr photostream or on my moblog@TextAmerica, you probably noticed a fairly bad shot of a Mercury Sable. For those of you interested, here’s a much better photo.
As mentioned back on Tuesday, this was one of the two cars that I could get nearly immediately. I went and had a good test drive last night, as well as a good conversation with the owner. He is the second owner, and was incredibly meticulous about everything. He’s had a lot of work done on it, and so although it has over 139,000 miles on it, it runs incredibly well. The only visual flaw is a small crack in the paint on the hood. I’ve never driven a V6 on a regular basis, nor have I ever driven anything this big on a regular basis, so it’ll be interesting.
I feel almost bad, because he was only asking $1,400. I checked the Kelley Blue Book value, and the car as it is right now is valued at around $2,600. I got quite the deal. Overall, I’m very pleased.

Whoo! Luxury car! Going from something small, to something big can be quite a challenge. You’ll get used to it, though.
You went and got that song stuck in my head. “I’m gonna buy me a Mercury and drive it up and down the road”
It looks to be in excellent condition, but it’s… it’s a Mercury!
I’m sorry, I’ve just been raised to hate anything Ford related, and buy import.
If it gets your from point a to point 3 then good for you Brian!
I grew up on Ford. Ford isn’t that bad. I mean, I’d rather have a Toyota or a Honda, but this is just meant to get me around for like 12-18 months. At that point, we’ll move on to our desired imports (probably some sort of Toyota SUV).
congrats on the new ride. saying goodbye to an old car is very sad, i have had my share. usually we end things quickly and painfully though: head on collision into tree, flash floods, crash into ditch on I-80. oh well. at least is is a quick and easy break. i hope your slow goodbye has not left you wanting for more of the tercel. its time to move on. ;)
My first car was a Mercury Tracer, and it was awesome. Held up well when I ran it into a tree too, so I’ve got no problem with Mercurys. Besides, they’re more nicely appointed than your standard Ford.
Next step: minivan!
You’re funny, old man.
Haha, old man.
I realized that I didn’t reply to what J said. He’s right, the Mercury has a lot more of the nicer features as standard. It’s quite nice, and I’m glad to have it.
