THorum Trip 2006: Thursday

I said I’d write it up, so, here goes. It’s going to be a long post, so I’m going to push most of the content after the break, to keep the front page clean. I was originally going to write one big gigantic post covering the details of the whole trip, but each day is big enough to warrant its own post.

The trip started on Thursday, July 20th. A few of us (myself, Angela, and Andie) headed out for Indianapolis. All of us encountered some form of delay or another. My flight landed nearly an hour late in Cincinnati, but I managed to sprint through the airport there and make my second flight. I was the only person to make it on time. Mark picked me up, and we headed for a nearby mall. We hung out at the food court (as I was starving and wanted to eat) and the nice-ish arcade there, while the other two tried to make their way.

Eventually, we wound up heading back to the airport, and while it was delayed, Andie’s flight made it to Indy. We were also in touch with Angela, who had been stuck in Chicago for quite awhile. She kept getting bumped back further and further on standby for a flight, and we decided that we’d make a road trip up to Chicago (which was only a few hours drive) to pick her up. I pushed for us to leave on that before we were absolutely sure that she wouldn’t make it, and it turns out to have been a good thing, since she wound up getting pushed to somewhere around 13 or so on standby, and obviously didn’t make the flight. She’d have been stuck there overnight.

We stopped back by Mark’s place on the way up to Chicago, where I was greeted by Mark’s friend Kat by a slap on my behind. It quite started me, but was amusing once I realized who it was. I consider Kat a friend, and had talked to her on the phone and such (through Mark’s phone), so it wasn’t just some random woman slapping me. Well, maybe it still was that, a little bit.

On the way up, we got kind of bored, but then realized that we could record video using my iBook. We placed phone calls to other THorum members and whatnot, and eventually made it up to Chicago. Angela got in the car, and we headed back towards Mark’s place, where we were to stay the night.

On our way back, we all decided that we were really hungry, and we eventually managed to track down an Applebee’s. At this point, we were all pretty tired and nobody knew where we were, or even what time zone we were in, and so at first we thought the Applebee’s had just closed. It turned out that we were thinking in the wrong time zone though, and so we managed to get in and have a nice meal.

After eating, we hit the road again, and made it back to Mark’s home at around 2am or so, I think. We played some Guitar Hero and hung out and went to bed around 4.

Thus concludes one of the longest, and yet, most fun Thursdays of my life. More to come.

  1. It’s good to read this - it’s a fun reminder of a great weekend. Having it be so late was actually a good thing.

Thanks for coming to Indiana :)
