The past couple of weeks have been crazy busy. I’m a bit disappointed that I haven’t been updating, so here’s a big gigantic wrap-up summary.
My in-laws have been living with us for a few weeks now. It’s really not too bad. Generally, the back of the house is my domain, and between the office and my bedroom, I almost don’t notice them sometimes. I try to be social and all, but sometimes it’s nice to just sit and veg and be alone with my thoughts.
Speaking of being alone, Lisa is now in Argentina. Her flight out was on the 11th of May, and it was a mess. We got to the airport at 2:30 in the afternoon, and were informed that her flight was delayed so bad that they put her onto another flight. She was going to miss her connection but there would be another flight she could catch. I stayed with her at the airport until 5:00pm, where she got into the line for security. After about 20 minutes, I could see her no longer, so I turned and left. She took off at 5:50pm. Once in Denver (the layover), her flight out to Oklahoma City (a few day stop before Argentina) was delayed again and again, and she didn’t take off until past 11pm. She got in to her room at like 2am my timezone, which was 3am for her. In that time, I could have literally driven her to her hotel and been halfway home, which is just crazy. Her flight to Argentina was also a bit marred, not by delay, but the fact that one of her large suitcases got left in Chicago. She got it the next day though, so she’s got everything she needs out there. Well, everything but me.
It’s slowly been sinking in how far away she is from me, and how long we’ll be apart. I mean, I do get to go see her in just like three weeks, but this’ll definitely be the longest we’ve ever been apart. Her birthday is a week from today, and I won’t get to be there with her for that. Some people don’t regard birthdays as that big of a deal, but they’re a really special thing to me, so I hate to not be with her for that. After I leave Argentina, we’ll be apart for another few weeks, and we’ll be apart for our fifth wedding anniversary. Funny enough, it won’t be the first time that we’re separated by distance for our anniversary, as for our first one, Lisa was in New Mexico for a passing in the family, and I was still in Virginia, so it’s not something we haven’t done before, but it’s still hard.
Since Lisa has been out of town, I’ve been somewhat of a socialite to distract. I’ve had a lot of fun, and sincerely enjoyed myself, but not having her with me for these things, or not having her to go home to, is a bit hard. I spent last Friday night heavily embroiled in battles in World of Warcraft. On Saturday night, I went to a great birthday party for my friend Adam, and met some awesome people that I even wound up going to grab a bite with after the party. Sunday night saw me going to my friend Mark’s house, where we played a long five player round of Settlers of Catan that was quite a blast. Monday night I spent in Warcraft again, and last night I hung out at Nasser’s house. We talked quite a bit, and then played some Warcraft on two PCs in the same room, which was extra fun. Tonight I’m having dinner with my parents-in-law at their home, and then I’ll be headed home. Surprisingly, I doubt I’ll get on Warcraft tonight. I think I’ll set up my Xbox and challenge my other friend Mark (not the one mentioned earlier) at some football, or maybe a relaxing round of golf. I’m tired, and I’d like to get to bed early, so that’ll help me do that.
This particular trip of Lisa’s feels a bit different than most of the others have felt. It’s probably because I know the time is much longer than normal. However, no matter how long we’re apart, I can feel the love I hold for her burning deeply in my heart, and I know that no matter how far apart we are physically, she’s always in my heart, and I can turn to that for comfort. Right now, I miss rubbing her neck at night when we’re laying down, and running my fingers through her hair. Back in February, we had some professional pictures taken, and I’m really glad we did. I have one framed on my desk, and it’s nice to have her beautiful smile looking at me all day to get me through the day.
I’m going to wrap this post up for now. I hope things have been good for you recently. More later.
