This morning found us in an interesting situation. Normally I drive on Tuesday and Thursday, but today I had to take the trash, so Lisa drove over to the dumpster as I walked the trash. As I was letting her into her door, we noticed that the cover to our gas tank was open and the gas cap and been unscrewed and was dangling. I’m sure we hadn’t just left it this way.
Lisa mentioned something of seeing a hose by our car - sure enough, we went back and there was a nice chunk of hose laying on the ground. Someone had attempted to siphon some gas out of our car during the night at some point.
Fortunately for us, our tank was already low, so they probably didn’t get much, if anything. Our gas gauge was reading a quarter of a tank. After filling up this morning and putting over thirteen gallons in, I think our gauge may have been misreading, but at least I know now we’ve got plenty of gas to make it. I hope they don’t come back again tonight, or we’ll probably lose most of this fresh tank. I’m kind of shocked that it even happened, but with gas prices these days, I guess I can’t say I’m surprised.
