Today was the first day back to classes at UNM, and let me tell you, I was stoked. Well, that is, after I got past the whole issue of being to an 8:00 am class, which for me means being at the bus stop at 6:50 am. It’s cold.

First class of the day was Statistics and Probability for Engineers. It was boring at first as we did just definition after definition, then we actually started to do some math and it got way better. Yes, I like math. I really enjoy it, so doing math made the class a lot better.

Next was software engineering. This course is being taught by a man who seems quite knowledgeable about the area of software engineering, and has just enough jadedness going for him that it seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun. My group was solidified really fast, and we’ll be working together all semester on one big project. Depending on how we have to present things, I’m considering registering a new domain and using that website to present the project. It would add a nice quality to the project were it all documented and presented via the web. We may be stuck using a rough product called WebCT, but if we aren’t, I want to set something up.

After that, we had Unix Administration. This class is being taught by someone who really knows the ins and outs of being a Unix Administrator, and although I have some decent experience in the area, I feel like I will learn a lot from him. He’s a big FreeBSD and Perl fan, so that’s exciting to me. I love Perl, it’s such a fun language.

Last class of the day was Operating Systems. We’re not covering and learning about specific Operating Systems, but learning exactly what an operating system is, principles behind the construction of them, operating system theory, etc. The professor has a thick accent but it seems like it’ll be a fun class.

In preparation for the software engineering class, I set up an experiment forum. I highly highly doubt it’ll become well-used on the site, but it’s here now. The forum is available here if you want to create a user and post something.

I also set up a new blog (yet another one) for my sketchbook. This way, I can get some feedback on my art. It’s certainly not great art, but it’s a step in the right direction to help me with my creativity. I’m not as creative as I’d like, but I love to draw.

One of these days, I’ll get my MovableType to LiveJournal bridge set up, but for now I’ll have to keep doing copy and paste to get the content over there. The things I do for my friends.

Edit: 24 May 2004: The forum is and has been long gone, and the sketchbook is now a part of the gallery, not a blog. Just felt a need to add this as I clean posts.

  1. Hey, Brian. I see you’ve started back to classes, as well. I know what you mean about the 8:00am classes, but Stats??? What were you thinking! LOL Last semester I took a Dreamweaver class Saturdays at 8:00am and I’ll NEVER do that again.

I still haven’t set up my blog site on randomthink, but one day I’ll finish it up and link all my other websites together. As of now, you can view most of my websites by going to http://www.lizwinfrey.com and looking in my portfolio under “Other Websites”. Other then making websites, I’ve been working my buttocks off in school.

I’ve started working on my resume and *thinking* about working on my portfolio. I need to find a job soon because my parents don’t make great roommates.

Ok, I have said enough for today. I must reinstall my OS, now. Who knew that uninstalled MS Internet Explorer would corrupt Windows ME? Sounds like a nice little Microsoft loophole to make me nearly need to buy a new operating system. I tell you if it came to that, I would go with Linux. So.. this line is for Bill Gates: “Bite me!!”

    Talk to ya later, man…

  2. I just realized that my name was a link to my URL and I put in two. So, I had to change that. Silly me, sorry bout that!
