Yesterday was one of the better thanksgiving celebrations in a long time.
We went down to my family’s celebration, with just tons of people. It was really neat, because we could observe four generations. My grandparents, their children and spouses, their children and spouses, and now a new generation is starting to appear. There were two little boys, both about a year old, and two little girls, each a bit older. It was really neat to see, even if sometimes it makes me sad that my cousins had kids at such young ages (16 or so). After the big meal around noon, we went outside and saw this relatively young baby mule that was really cute. We also spent a bit of time at my mom’s house, just the four of us (me, my wife, my mom and dad). That was nice. My dad (well, stepdad) was just diagnosed with cancer and so he didn’t show up for the big meal, he was too nervous. I can understand that though.
Then, we drove up the street a bit to my wife’s family celebration. Less types of food, greater quantities of the food. It was great at both places, although it was here only that we ate some wonderful pumpkin pie. Not that it wasn’t at my family’s place, it’s just we were saving room since we knew we’d have to eat twice that day. I also sadly watched the Redskins (my favorite team) lose to the Cowboys in the presence of a huge Cowboys fan. I was required to then wear a 2 7/8 Cowboys helmet. It sat on top of my head, it was funny. After dinner, they popped in the movie Mr. Deeds, and so we stayed and watched that, then came home.
Also, this morning we woke up at 5:30 to get to Wal-Mart to take advantage of some good deals on some gifts. I can’t believe I was at Wal-Mart within 15 minutes of waking up, and that it was only 5:45 in the morning. It was actually a lot of fun, my wife knows how to make shopping interesting. I had more fun than I’d like to admit, being part of a horde.
Remember, we’re short six shopping days this year, so get out and buy now, buy often. I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving, and that you realize how wonderful of a gift life is.
