Slackin!

Boy, considering the quantity of thoughts I’ve had lately, I just haven’t posted for anything.

Over the past few days I’ve been listening to Christmas music, and I’m in a Christmas mood big time. A friend also sent out a letter regarding remembering the purpose of Thanksgiving and Christmas, which really helped to reframe things.

Sure, I get all excited about gifts from friends and family, but then sometimes I lose focus of the true Gift that’s being immortalized by the Christmas holiday. I realize that Thanksgiving doesn’t quite tie into it, but the pilgrims left for religious freedoms, so that can be celebrated too.

While I was at the in-laws on Saturday, they had Christmas music going, and I just felt really moved as I was online, doing work and whatnot. I enjoy time with family (in-law or not) more and more lately, which is kind of uncommon for me, as I’m usually not a giant family person. I mean, I love my wife, and I’m sure I’ll love spending time with children when we have them, but as for now, my extended family hasn’t always been nearly as fun to be with as they have been lately. I don’t think that they’ve changed, but I think that my perception has changed.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I’ll get some time in with both sides of the family. After the surgery my stepdad just went through (a biopsy to check a potentially cancerous tumor) it’ll be nice to spend some time with them away from the hospital.
